Promoter Profile: Scarborough Jazz

11 May 2016

On June 1st, Ingrid Jensen and her quartet will drop in to The Cask Inn in Scarborough to perform as part of their Orpheus Project tour.

Scarborough Jazz has a long, impressive history of supporting live jazz, having been in action for the last 30 years. For a venue to maintain weekly gigs for that length of time is no mean feat and the committee, led by Mike Gordon, has worked tirelessly to promote jazz in the North. Mike is also the pianist in the house band which welcomes a guest artist or artists three weeks out of every four, with the four being a visiting (often touring) ensemble.

As well as running this year round programme at the Cask Inn, Mike is also the Festival Director for the annual Scarborough Jazz Festival, an award winning festival which attracts many visitors each year.

Mike’s hard work has not gone unnoticed and he has received two Services to Jazz awards in recent years – both a Jazz Yorkshire Award and a Parliamentary Jazz Award.

We are delighted to have The Cask Inn as one of the host venues on our inaugural tour and look forward to seeing another 30 years of Scarborough Jazz!
